The Writing Center promotes diversity in the United States by helping international students achieve their dream of studying in premiere American universities. We are always impressed by Chinese students’ tremendous work ethic and positive attitude. However, we know that Chinese students struggle with the personal admissions essays required by American schools. To help Chinese students overcome this barrier, The Writing Center is pleased to sponsor its 1st Annual Writing Center Personal Essay Contest!
The Writing Center will award $500 cash prizes to 1 high-school student and 1 post-high school student who submit the most compelling and memorable short personal essays. In addition, 1 in every 30 entrants will WIN FREE, one-on-one writing instruction or editing help from a Harvard tutor.
Great personal essays can be written about almost any subject – from inspirational stories to scientific mysteries to NEW concepts – but must always help readers understand the author’s perspective. The best essays are educational, positive, and entertaining. Importantly, perfect grammar is NOT required – stories and ideas matter most!
